Mikel

Mikel Jordan has spent her personal and professional life committed to things that preserve a tribal reminiscent culture – hair care, food, and fellowship – combining artistic expression and a deep commitment to supporting others. After briefly exploring retail, Mikel found her passion as a stylist and entrepreneur. Alongside her career in hair, she worked in food service—catering, baking, and entertaining—and became a life insurance agent in 2018, determined to improve financial security in marginalized Black communities. Mikel is the co-founder of Good Times the Group (GTG), a social club that uses fun events to support others and she founded Goodies from Scratch, a home bakery. Following the pandemic, when the Cosmetology industry was temporarily shut down, Mikel transitioned her career towards community service, bringing together all of her skills, strengths and passions together as the Community Engagement Coordinator at NuPOINT CDC. Mikel earned an Associate degree in 2016 as a Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honors scholar, specializing in social justice. Her research and advocacy influenced the international PTK honors program to accept students with criminal convictions.
